May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

We took a weekend trip to Asheville at the beginning of November.
Just to get away.
I highly recommend Asheville in the Fall.
The weather was perfect and Fall-y.
We explored during the day and wandered around downtown at night.
We took a nice drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway... until we were forced to turn around because of a rock slide.
The kids were over the Blue Ridge Parkway at that point.

We had to take some breaks to get the wiggles out.
Understandable.

We also hit up Linville Caverns.  It was pretty cool and the kids enjoyed it (I was worried).
They took us deep inside the cave and then turned off all the lights so we could experience total darkness.
Turns out, you would go blind within 3-6 months of being in total darkness.
You'd also be clinically insane in 2-3 weeks.
The more you know...

I saved the best for last.
On the way home, we stopped at Henry River Mill Village.
In the early 1900's, it was a working mill and also provided housing for the workers.  It was slowly abandoned and then eventually shut down in 1970(ish)... Anyway, blah blah blah who cares, right?
It was the site of District 12 in The Hunger Games.
The dude who owns the village just lets people wander around and take pictures.
So, I did.

We may or may not have seen a lady dressed up as Effie Trinket as we were leaving.
I call that a good weekend.

I heard them talking about that old town on NPR. Fascinating!
